- Location: Sydney inner-west, plus a weekend at the Central Coast.
- Orders per week: ~7 — a mix of solo lunches, dinner for two and weekend group orders.

- Previously used: UberEats primarily, MenuLog occasionally.

03What worked really well
- Restaurant depth in the suburbs. The Central Coast weekend home showed 43 restaurants on DoorDash versus 12 on UberEats — the biggest single differentiator if you live or holiday outside the inner city.
- DashPass value. At 7+ orders a week and A$3.99–5.99 typical delivery fees, membership paid for itself in the first week.
- DoubleDash. Used it three times over 45 days — dinner plus a 7-Eleven top-up (painkillers, chocolate) in one delivery, no extra fee. Unique in the AU market as far as I could tell.
- Driver assignment consistency. Median 3 minutes from order-placed to driver-assigned, 22 minutes from assigned to delivered — very consistent across the 45-day window.
- Live tracking accuracy. ETA was within 2 minutes of actual delivery on 42 of 47 orders.
04Where it was mixed
- Peak Friday/Saturday nights. Between 6:30–8:00pm, delivery times inflated 35–45 minutes — UberEats showed similar peak pressure in side-by-side checks, so this isn't a DoorDash-only issue, but it's worth planning around.
- Occasional stockouts. 3 of 47 orders had a menu item marked unavailable after placing; DoorDash refunded within 24 hours each time, but it's still friction.
- Late-night suburban driver availability. One 10pm Sunday order in a slightly-out-of-metro area took 55 minutes against a 30-minute estimate. I ordered fewer late nights after that.

What could be better
- Loyalty rewards for non-DashPass users. DashPass is strong, but casual (non-member) usage doesn't earn much ongoing loyalty value.
- Card-only payment. No cash option, which won't suit everyone.
- Restaurant rating clarity. Ratings skew high (4.5+ is common), which makes it harder to tell genuinely great restaurants from merely average ones.
