Rajasthan has a season, and it's short. From October to March the desert cools, the light turns soft and gold, and the palace cities look exactly like the postcards that made you want to come. 01Udaipur (Day 1–3)

The City of Lakes earns slow evenings, so give it three days rather than a rushed overnight. A boat on Lake Pichola at golden hour, the sprawling City Palace complex, and the Jagdish Temple in the old town. But the real Udaipur happens on rooftops: pick a café or a hotel terrace, order something cold, and watch the water and the white palaces turn pink as the sun drops behind the Aravalli hills.

02Jodhpur (Day 4–5)

Then descend and get pleasantly lost in the old town around the clock tower and Sardar Market.

03The seasonal catch
